Doing our bit for the environment

For every skip of waste we collect over 80% of its content will be recycled.  Including Wood, Brick, Metal, Inerts, Cardboard and Plastics.  All waste is segregated to maximise our recycling figures.

THE PROCESS

You have filled the skip and it now contains various types of waste.  Once collected it is transported back to our recycling centre and onto the weighbridge.  Every load received on site is weighed so we know how much waste was in the skip.

The skip is then tipped out along with other waste received and machines start segregating the larger pieces of material, already it is being recycled and moved around the site into the relevant places.

The smaller more manageable pieces of waste are all loaded into the hopper where it makes a journey to the trommel, down a long conveyor belt to the manned picking belt.  This is a manual picking line where we have pickers removing the various types of waste by hand.  Directly below the picking line are collection bins for the various types of waste segregated by hand.  This is the only way to maximise our recycling targets.

SO WHERE DOES IT ALL GO?

The following gives you an idea as to where your waste ends up once it has been segregated and recycled. Unfortunately, some of the waste received cannot be recycled due to contamination so it has to go to landfill. We are constantly aiming to reduce our figures to landfill and the long drawn out process above ensures our figures are low.

Timber

Once segregated this is bulk loaded to the wood processors for animal bedding or garden mulch.

Metal

Once segregated this is bulk loaded to the scrap metal merchant for reprocessing.

Brick/Concrete

Once segregated this is bulk loaded to be crushed and re-used as hardcore for back filling, foundations or bases for concrete

Excavation Waste

Once segregated this is screened and re-screened and re-used as graded hardcore or soils.

Cardboard/Paper

Once segregated this is bulk loaded and delivered to the local recycling plant and reprocessed.

Green Waste/Plasterboard

Once segregated this is bulk loaded for reprocessing and used as soil conditioner.

Plastic

Once segregated this is bulk loaded, reprocessed and used as new plastic items.
